Replacement Casement Window Installation Instructions

The following must be done to insure warranty coverage. All vinyl new construction windows are designed to be installed plumb, square and level. If the installer does not meet these simple requirements, the appearance, operation and weatherability of the unit will be affected.

After verifying that the window will fit into the rough opening, take off the plastic wrap from the unit and remove the sill angle, which is shipped taped to the window. Set the sill angle to the side as this will be used later in the window installation process.

Cut a 3" wide strip of fiberglass insulation and lay it on your sill prior to setting the new window into the opening. This will help prevent drafts from entering under the window.

You are now ready to set the window into the opening. Lifting the unit with two hands, set the bottom of the window over the stool onto the sill first. Be sure that the window is setting down onto the sill of the existing window. Also, be sure that the window sets up against the blind stop of the existing casing and hold it in place while installing screws. Do not fully tighten screws yet.

Verify unit is plumb, level and square (See Figure 1) . If needed use wood shims to ensure window is level and square. Do not over-shim. Install the rest of the screws.

Remove a hinge screw (on both top and bottom) on master frame closest to the lock and replace with a #8 x 2 1/2 flathead #410 stainless steel sheet metal screw.

Remove screw from casement ramps located on the sill of the main frame and replace with a #8 x 2 1/2 flathead #410 stainless steel sheet metal screw. This securely anchors the base of each unit.

Fill in any cracks between sides of unit and existing casing with fiberglass insulation (or non-expanding, low pressure foam insulation).

Apply a bead of caulk around the perimeter of the new window prior to reinstalling the interior trim. Be sure to put the interior trim tightly up against the new unit.

On the outside sill area, you may need to trim the sill angle piece prior to snapping it into the sill of the window to close up any gap between the bottom of the window and existing window sill.

If you did not caulk the blind stop prior to setting the new window into the opening, you will want to put a bead of caulk around the exterior between the blind stop and the new window.
